Abstract

946,711. Making electrical connections; jointing by forging. BRITISH INSULATED CALLENDER'S CABLES Ltd. Aug. 8, 1962 [Aug. 9, 1961], No. 28843/61. Headings B3A and B3H. [Also in Division H2] An electrical connection between an aluminium sleeve and a solid aluminium conductor is made by simultaneously forming a circumferential compression crimp and a local indentation crimp. As shown, Fig. 1, an hydraulic compression tool for crimping a sector-shaped sleeve 1 to a conductor 2 consists of a fixed frame 6 and a piston 7 carrying dies 3, 4 which have surfaces 9, 10 to form the circumferential crimp and the surface 9 has a projection 8 which forms a local indentation. The dimensions of the indentation are small compared with those of the circumferential crimp. Several crimps may be made along the length of the sleeve so that the circumferential crimps overlap, Fig. 4, and the sleeve may be in the form of a spade terminal 18, Fig. 6.
