The tubular metal sheath S of a heating element H is earthed through the U-shaped bi-metal BM1 of a thermal switch D whose contacts C1, C2, insulatingly mounted respectively on the bi-metal BM1 and an ambient temperature compensating bi-metal BM2, close upon the passage of excessive earth leakage currents to earth the line conductor L through a low resistance R and thus blow a fuse F.
