946,271. Rectilinear-motion bearings. ZAHNRADFABRIK FRIEDRICHSHAFEN A.G. Aug. 2, 1962 [Aug. 18, 1961; Jan. 19, 1962], No. 29768/62. Heading F2A. A rectilinear-motion bearing for longitudinally-slidable machine parts such as 1 comprises at least one guide rail 2 of substantially rectangular cross-section, cylindrical rollers such as 4, 5 (Fig. 1), with parallel axes guided along a closed path (for each series 4, 5), and cage members, each embracing two spaced-apart rollers. In one embodiment the cage members are links 10, 12 (Figs. 5, 6), joined together consecutively in overlapping relationship, the rollers (in each series) forming an endless chain. Alternate members have holes 11 and projections 13, as shown, the projections of one member engaging in holes of the adjacent ones. Each member is made of side walls 10<SP>1</SP> or 12<SP>1</SP> and a bridge 14 or 15, the walls 10<SP>1</SP> and 12<SP>1</SP> having flaps 16 to prevent the rollers 4 or 5 from falling out. In a second embodiment, guide rollers 101, 101a (Figs. 7 and 9) have axial bores and each member may have holes each member being connected together by pins engaging in the bores of the rollers and the holes of each two adjacent members, the pins being secured in position by fastening means. The cage members are carried by an endless chain running over chain-wheels 104. The rollers 101, 101a run on a roller support or shoe 107 aligned with and fastened to the machine housing 111 by bolts 105 and 108, at least one of which, 108, is eccentric, the bolts 105 having journals 106 on which the wheels 104 are rotatably mounted. In a third embodiment (Fig. 12), each cage member has arms 126, 127 joined by a bridge, the arm 126 having holes 128 and the other having projections 129, those of one member engaging in the holes of the adjacent ones to form an endless chain. The cage members may be of synthetic plastics material which may contain a lubricating constituent, such as molybdenum disulphide.
