Abstract

946,149. Making wire articles. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. July 3, 1962 [July 3, 1961], No. 23955/61. Heading B3E. [Also in Division H1] The filament of a tubular incandescent lamp is supported at intervals by members 6 of tungsten wire consisting of a single turn 7 surrounding the filament and a part extending out and being bent round to bear on the inside of the tube at a number of points. The part of the support member engaging the tube may be of waveform and terminate in an out-turned stub 8. To form the support member, a rod of diameter equal to the internal diameter of the tube has an axial pin projecting from one end and two sets of radial pins in parallel planes spaced along the axis of the rod, the pins of one set being aligned with the gaps of the other set. A single turn of wire is made round the axial pin and the wire then wound alternately round the pins of the two sets, the wire being maintained at red heat during winding and subsequently heated to 1300‹ in dry hydrogen.
