Abstract
945,883. Crates. R. B. DARBY. March 15, 1961 [March 17, 1960; July 26, 1960; Aug. 9, 1960], Nos. 9394/60, 25916/60 and 27522/60. Heading B8P. [Also in Division E2] A vegetable crate is formed from sides A, B and ends C, D assembled in strip form as shown in Fig. 2 and having its fourth comer connected by means 18 engaging holes in adjacent side A. Adjacent sides and ends may be butted or mitred. The means 18 may be as shown in Fig. 9 comprising a strip 23 passed through a staple and bent back. The members A-D are attached to each other by metal pieces 16 at the corners. A loose bottom may rest on lower frame members 10, 13 or a bottom may be detachably engaged with the sides and ends. In another embodiment (Fig. 13) the sides and ends are connected by metal strips 29 extending the full depth of the crate at three corners and by members 18 at the fourth corner, the bottom comprising members 31, 33 of which members 33 engage slots 32 in the two sides. In a further embodiment, all ends and sides are separately formed and are connected at the four corners by members 18.
