Abstract
945,782. Fluid-pressure servomotor control systems. M. VON UNSINGEN, [trading as BOCHUMER EISENHUTTE HEINTZMANN & CO]. June 29,1962 [July 3, 1961], No. 25015/62. Heading G3P. [Also in Division E2] The cover plate 2 of an underground or other shelter, air shaft or emergency exit 1, Fig. 1, is attached to a piston 9 slidable in a cylinder 5 having conduits 11e, 12 leading thereto. To open the cover 2 a solenoid is energized to unseat a valve 13, Fig. 3, and retract an associated lock 21 from a groove 22 in the rod 3 of the piston 9 so enabling fluid from a source X to retract a piston 14 from a locked position in groove 22 and open a valve 15 so that fluid branching from upstream of the piston 14 flows therethrough into a line 11c having a branch 11b to atmosphere which is closed when the valve 13 opens the described path for the fluid from source X. Line 11c leads via a valve 16, open when the cover plate is closed, a valve 17 and the conduit 11e to the cylinder 5. In the elevated position of the piston 9 the valve 16 is spring closed when a feeler 25a engages a recess 26, Fig. 1, in the rod 3. The conduit 12, Fig. 3, is connected to atmosphere 12 through a normallyclosed solenoid-actuated valve 18 integral with the valve 17, and a throttle valve 19. The valve 19 is responsive to impulses, e.g. from a Geiger counter or thermal fuse; it is also actuable by a trip device 27 responsive to impact or pressure waves. Upon operation of the valve 18 the cylinder 5 is connected to atmosphere 8 via valves 18,19 and the pressure supply to the cylinder is cut-off by closure of valve 17; the feeler 25a disengages the recess 26 and the valve 16 opens. Prior to complete closure of the cover plate a cam trip 28 thereon engages and rotates a lever 19a of the throttle valve 19 to effect a throttling of the exhausting fluid and hence braking of the cover plate in a pre-sealing zone; the cam 28 then fully opens valve 19 to facilitate the final sealing movement of the cover plate. Before this position is reached the valve 13 and piston 14 enter the groove 22 to lock the cover plate. Any downward movement of the piston 9 due to leakage causes opening of the valve 16 and re-elevation of the piston and cover plate.
