Abstract

A metal anode for use where chlorine or HCl is generated, e.g from brine, consists of titanium coated with iridium. An under-coat of Pt or Rh may be applied, and may also be included in the top coating, as an alloy of Ir and Pt or Rh. The voltage required to electrolyze brine using the anode is 1.4V. Dutch Specification 216,199, Swiss Specification 236,579 and U.S.A. Specification 1,477,099 are referred to.
