A titanium electrode connected to a graphite lead-in, e.g. for use in the electrolysis of brine, is provided on the face in contact with the graphite with a plating of platinum, rhodium, or iridium to lower the contact resistance. Preferably the titanium surface is pre-etched using HC1.
