Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an electrolyzing method needing very small electric power without requiring a special apparatus or device by using a membrane obtd. by depositing a metal on the cathode side surface of an exchange membrane by a chemical plating method in an electrolyzing method using a cation exchange membrane. CONSTITUTION:In an electrolyzing method using a membrane obtd. by sticking a cathode material on the cathode side surface of a cation exchange membrane, a cation exchange membrane with a metal deposited on the cathode side surface by a chemical plating method is used. An anode and a cathode are set with the exchange membrane in-between, the membrane is brought into contact with the cathode only by the pressure difference between cathodic and anodic chambers, and an electric current is supplied to the electrodes. Thus, a considerable voltage drop of about 0.3-1.0V can be attained as compared to an exchange membrane with no deposited metal.
