945,656. Drawing wire. MASCHINENFABRIK HERBORN ZUREIGNIEDERLASSUNG DER BERKENHOFF & DREBES A.G. Nov. 14, 1962 [Dec. 19, 1961], No. 43122/62. Heading B3P. A wire drawing machine comprises a drum secured to a rotatable spindle, a storage drum of lesser diameter than the drawing drum and rotatable about said spindle, a guide roller mounted on an arm rotatable about said spindle to guide wire from the drawing drum to the storage drum, a gear-wheel secured to the storage drum, a planet pinion and a driving pinion carried by said arm for rotation with a spindle common thereto, said planet pinion meshing with the gear on the drawing drum and the driving pinion meshing with a gearwheel secured to the storage drum, the axis of the guide roller being substantially parallel with the axis of the spindle and the product of the ratios of the meshing gears being the same as the ratio of the diameters of the drums. A second storage drum of the same diameter as the drawing drum may be added. The drawing drum 1 and a gear-wheel 10 are secured to a shaft 2 and freely rotatable on the shaft are a storage drum 3, a second storage drum 12 and two arms 7 and 7<SP>1</SP> each of which carries a guide roller 5, 13. The arms extend beyond the shaft and each supports a planet pinion 8, 8<SP>1</SP> and a driving pinion 9, 9<SP>1</SP>. The pinions are secured in pairs to common shafts which are freely rotatable in the arms. The driving pinions 9, 9<SP>1</SP> mesh with corresponding gear-wheels 11, 11<SP>1</SP> secured to the drum 3, and the pinion 8<SP>1 </SP>meshes with a wheel 10<SP>1</SP> secured to the drum 12. The wire 4 runs on to the drum 1, over the guide pulley 5 to the storage drum 3 and then over the guide pulley 13 to the drum 12 from which it passes to the next stage of the machine. If wire is withdrawn from the drum 12 at the same rate as it is applied to the drum 1 the carrying arms 7 and 7<SP>1</SP> do not rotate, but if wire is drawn off the drum 12 more quickly than it runs on to the drum 1 the arm 7<SP>1</SP> runs ahead of the drum and unwinds wire from the drum 12 on to the drum 3, the arm 7 runs in the opposite direction and winds wire off the drum 1 on to the drum 3 so that the total length of wire on the three drums diminishes. In order to control the minimum and maximum quantities of wire on the drums the arms are mounted on spindles which are connected to a counter-mechanism actuating contacts which increase or decrease the speed of the mechanism comprising the following stage of the machine. Alternatively the spindle may be connected directly to a governor mechanism.
