Abstract
An impermeable graphite tube is produced by coating a rod of graphite having a smooth surface with a layer of graphite by the thermal decomposition of a gaseous hydrocarbon and removing the rod. The rod may be produced by extrusion. The surface of the rod may be polished. The rod may be provided with an intermediate coating of colloidal graphite, aluminium, aluminium oxide, chromium, or iron oxide.
