Abstract

A coherent composite body is made by subjecting molybdenum di-silicide in contact with alumina, with or without a flux e.g. 3 per cent silica or magnesia, to sintering temperature whilst under sufficient mechanical pressure. Cavities can be provided by inserting core pieces of a material resistant to the temperature and pressure used, e.g. graphite, and subsequently removing the core pieces. Provisional Specification 30213/53 discloses metals in general exemplified by molybdenum di-silicide. Specification 779,129 is referred to.
