Abstract

The surface of a bare metal wall in the form of a tube of stainless steel or Nickel A is oxidized by heating to 1200-2000 DEG F. in the presence of oxygen while hydrogen at 50-100 p.s.i.g. is maintained within the tube; the hydrogen is said to diffuse towards the oxidized surface. A layer of ceramic glaze or high temperature glass may then be fused on to the oxide coating at about 1500 DEG F.
