Abstract

In a variable resistor (see Group XXXVI) a contact brush is formed of a flat slab of graphite having a body portion with a low-resistance coating and a tapered edge portion terminating in a line-contact edge. As described, the brush is of electrographitic grade having a Shore schleroscope hardness in the range 20-45 and is vacuum impregnated with a lubricant such as a mixture of rosin, castor oil and n-amyl alcohol or with a hardening metallic silicate solution.
