Abstract

945,037. Floor polishing machines. MAUZ & PFEIFFER. Nov. 8, 1962 [Nov. 8, 1961], No. 42178/62. Heading A4F. A floor polishing machine which is adapted to be used for cleaning rugs by at least one brush revolving about a substantially vertical axis, is provided on its lower side with a plurality of separate supports adapted to take up the weight of the machine and to maintain the brush at a fixed distance from the base fabric of the rug on which they are supported by means of their smooth end surfaces. The supports 14, Fig. 1, are fixed to the wall 12 of the brush chamber and each comprises a socket 15, Fig. 2, housing a ball 16 rotatable on a fixed circular ring 17. The dimensions of the balls 16 are such that the portion of the machine weight which each carries is sufficient to press them through the nap of the rug to the base fabric. In an alternative embodiment the supports are mounted upon the brush carrying plate. In a further embodiment the supports 14 are connected to the housing 12, but a brush plate 50, Fig. 5, carries a plurality of brush segments 51, there being between the plate 50 and each brush base 54 a curved leaf spring 55 for soft engagement of the bristles with the nap of the rug. The height of the supports may be adjustable.
