Abstract

944,811. Transducers. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Sept. 20, 1960, No. 32220/60. Heading H4J. Two polepieces 4, 5 which together define an air gap are secured in position by cement or adhesive to one surface of a sheet 3 of material of thickness 1 to 10 mils. The air gap is annular for reception of a speech coil 6. The assembly forms part of a moving coil microphone, loudspeaker or other transducer. The transducer includes a cup 1 of ferro-magnetic material and a cylindrical permanent magnet 2 of high coercivity material. The space between sheet 3, cup 1 and magnet 2 define an air chamber. A second air chamber is defined by sheet 3, polepieces 4, 5 and a diaphragm 7. The two air chambers are separated by the sheet 3 which is perforated and may be of plastics or metal, e.g. steel. Sheet 3 provides acoustic resistance.
