[Also in Division E2] A sliding panel 11 is moved beneath roof 10 by a nut 31 on a threaded spindle 19 rotated by handle 29 through gears 26, 25 and mounted in channel 20; the nut is connected to panel 11 by trunnions 35 in slots 34 in a pressing 32 hinged at 36 to the panel, so allowing the rear of the panel to rise up ramps on closing the roof opening. Two tongues 40 of a pressing 38 engage in notches in flanges of channel 20 to lock the panel in the closed position; initial movement of nut 31 raises tongues 40 out of the notches. Channel 20 is bolted to cross member 21 and is a sliding fit in cross member 22 to facilitate removal of the whole mechanism. The nut may alternatively be hinged to the rear of a trim frame 18 which is flexibly or hingedly connected to the front of panel 11; the frame does not rise with the panel but remains in sliding contact with flanges on a water check frame 12 and carries a lining material 17. The spindle 19 may be motor driven.
