Abstract

Yarn containing cotton fibres and staple fibres or continuous filaments of regenerated cellulose is made by impregnating the latter (in dried or freshly-spun state) with a cross-linking agent which is formaldehyde, a polyaldehyde, a hydroxyaldehyde or a reactant type resin, curing the impregnated fibres to cross-link the cellulose, blending these fibres with cotton fibres which have not been treated with a cross-linking agent but which may have received conventional treatments such as sizing, lubricating, mercerising, preshrinking, and forming a yarn containing at least 10% by weight of regenerated cellulose fibres. The latter may also be impregnated with a catalyst for the cross-linking reaction and/or wetting and/or finishing agents. The treated fibres may be added to the cotton fibres at any stage of preparation for spinning e.g. in the cotton opener. Specification 943,946 is referred to.
