Material in a silo supported on pillars 12 may be discharged from holes 4 via shoot devices 5, 6 which discharge on to an annular conveyer 7 mounted on rails 13, 14. Each device 5, 6 includes a hopper on a carriage which is supported on rails 35. The rails 13, 14 are rotatable on rollers 15 by a wire 40 which engages rail 13 and passes over guiding pulleys 25-27, 29. The wire is driven from a motor pulley 25 and is tensioned by a pulley 28. Roller units, Fig. 4 (not shown), located along the rail 13 maintain the platform in its circular path. Material is transferred from the conveyer 7 to an endless discharge conveyer 10 by scrapers 11. Shoot devices 5<SP>1</SP>, 6<SP>1</SP> permit material from holes 4 in close proximity to the conveyer 10 to be discharged directly on to this conveyer. Two or more annular conveyers may be provided and the shoots 5 may comprise a number of telescopic tubes. Rollers may be mounted on the platform 7 and run on stationary rails. The silo may be charged by an annular conveyer of the same form as that described above, the conveyer being arranged above the silo. The loading device may be replaced by a displaceable scraper and the rotatably mounted shoots arranged to project from the scraper on a level with or below the conveyer.
