They are then delivered at 8 to carriers 9 of an endless conveyer 10. A series of the carriers 9 are simultaneously discharged so as to deposit a row of dough pieces on a carrier 12. The carriers 12 are fed from a magazine which may be a fixed part of the apparatus, Fig. 1 (and Fig. 7, not shown), or may be on a wheeled trolley which is movable into position relative to the apparatus (Fig. 8, not shown). Each carrier 9 comprises a load supporting platform 41 (Figs. 5 and 6) and a crank arm 49 carrying a wheeled follower 51. The latter initially runs in a fixed guide channel 65 (Fig. 4) and pass from this into a channel 52 which is mounted on parallel vertical slide members 62. The channel 52 is vertically displaceable to thereby tip the carriers into their discharging position by the rotation of a crank wheel 56 having a radially adjustable pivot 60. The wheel 56 is rotated by switching means (not shown) when the leading dough-piece bearing carrier reaches the downstream end of the channel 52. In a modification (Fig. 2, not shown), each carrier has a trailing wheel which runs on a single rail instead of the channel 52. The rail is caused to drop when a line of filled carriers has accumulated, and these each pivot about respective points at which they are connected to the conveyer chain, and thus discharge to the carrier 12 as before.
