In an escapement controlled tuning mechanism the balance 1 is arrested with the hairspring stressed before the mainspring 3 reaches the end of its power. The arresting means comprises a spring finger 14 which co-operates with a pin on the balance and which is carried by a pivoted lever 12, 13 actuated by a projecting button carried by the going barrel 8 and controlled by the mainspring outer coil.
