Abstract

A thermographic copying transfer sheet comprises an infra-red transparent support and a coating thereon of a coloured heat-sensitive fusible material comprising a substance melting at a temperature above 160 DEG F. with a smaller amount of a lower melting point substance together with not more than 5% of an oily substance. The support may be of paper, regenerated cellulose, cellulose ester, vinyl polymer, polyester, or nylon and the fusible material may comprise a hard wax such as carnauba wax or montan wax with a smaller amount of a low melting point paraffin wax or microcrystalline wax, or a mixture of carnauba and montan waxes and a dye with or without an oil such as castor oil. Instead of natural waxes may be used thermoplastic synthetic resins, such as vinyl resins, polythene, halogenated polythene, or natural or synthetic rubbers with plasticizers if required. Alkyd resins, modified rosin esters or rosin may be included to increase adhesion of the coating to the backing. If the fusible coating is thin pigments may be used instead of dyes. An aluminium or steel sheet also may be provided with a similar coloured heat-sensitive fusible material coating.
