Abstract

1,002,257. Transfers. E. PEREIRABORRAJO. April 26, 1962 [May 1, 1961], No. 15999/62. Heading B6C. A transfer for decorating pottery &c. is printed with an ink comprising a vitrifiable pigment in a vehicle consisting of a mixture of waxes and resins formulated so that it is fusible between ambient temperature and 150‹ C. and solidifies again on cooling, and so that at the firing temperature the change from solid to liquid to gaseous state occurs substantially simultaneously. The paper or other backing is first coated with a water-soluble gum and then printed with the ink which is liquefied by heating for this purpose. Before or after printing, a coating of a water-insoluble film may be applied so as to form a support for the design after the paper and water-soluble coating have been removed during the application of the design to an article. In examples given, beeswax, paraffin wax, carnauba wax, spermaceti and stearin, and WW resin, venetian turpentine and labdanum are employed as the waxes and resins. For the water-insoluble film, chlorinated caoutchouc, cellulose, synthetic latex, polyester or vinyl resins dissolved in organic solvents may be used.
