Abstract

Alpha olefines, e.g. ethylene, propylene or 4-methylpentene-1, are polymerized in presence of a catalyst comprising a chloride, bromide or iodide of scandium and/or yttrium, and an organometallic compound of a Group Ia or II metal and/or aluminium. Specified catalyst components are ScCl3, YCl3, LiAl (n-C10H21)4, CdEt2, AlEt3, AlBun3, AlHexn3 and AlPh3. Specification 810,023 is referred to.
