Abstract

Photoconductive resinous compositions comprise an organic non-polymeric photoconductor, capable of acting as an electron donor, a resin and an electron-accepting organic substance which is colourless or of pale colour, has a molecular weight of 50-5000 and has a melting point above room temperature; a sensitising dye-stuff may also be present. The photoconductor is preferably an aromatic or heterocyclic substance such as naphthalene, anthracene, benzanthrene, chrysene, diphenylanthracene, terphenyl, quaterphenyl, sexiphenyl, N-alkyl-carbazole, phenthiazine or a compound of Specifications 836,148, 836,151, 838,245, 851,218, 853,880, 874,437, 874,634, 895,001, 930,988, 938,434, 940,531, 940,573, 940,873, 940,874 and 947,488. The electron-accepting substance can be an aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic compound containing a strongly polar group such as cyano, nitro, halogen, keto, quinone, carboxylic acid, ester or anhydride. The resin may be a polymer of indene, coumarone, vinyl chloride, vinylidene chloride, a vinyl ether, vinyl acetate, a vinyl acetal, isobutylene or an acrylic or methacrylic ester.
