Abstract
A luminescent material comprises a support and a silver halide emulsion layer, wherein the silver halide emulsion layer or a foil in contact therewith contains a benzthiophene dioxide or dibenzthiophendioxide derivative of the general formula <FORM:1020816/C4-C5/1> or <FORM:1020816/C4-C5/2> in which R1 and R2 each is a hydrogen o halogen atom, an alkyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, aryl, aralkyl, carboxylic acid ester, carbonamide or nitrile radical. The material emits U.V. light in the range 250-600 mm . upon exposure to high energy rays. The material may be used as a liquid scintillator by dissolving in benzene.
