Abstract

A luminescent material comprises a support and a silver halide emulsion layer wherein the silver halide layer or a foil in contact therewith contains a compound of the general formula <FORM:1020817/C4-C5/1> in which X is a hydrogen atom or an aryl radical, R1 and R2 each is a hydrogen or halogen atom or an alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aralkyl, aryloxy, carboxyl, carboxylic acid ester or nitrile, or carbonamide radical which may be substituted by an alkyl radical having 1 to 4 carbon atoms or by an aryl group. The material emits U.V. light in the range 250-600 mm upon exposure to high-energy rays. The finely ground compound may be suspended in a 5% aqueous gelatine solution which is then mixed with highly sensitive silver bromide emulsion, the mixture being applied to a foil of cellulose acetate having a thickness of 0.1 mm.
