Abstract

942,633. Drive for step-by-step conveyer. SHELL INTERNATIONALE RESEARCH MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V. April 3, 1962 [April 5, 1961], No. 12737/62. Heading B8A. [Also in Division F4] The motion imparted to the moving supports of a step-by-step conveyer in a kiln for firing, e.g. ceramic ware, is such that all points on the supports move with circular motion but with non-uniform velocity such that at the instant of lifting and depositing the ware from and on to the fixed supports the moving supports are at a velocity minimum. By this means damage to the materials being conveyed through the kiln is avoided. Each mobile support is arranged longitudinally in the kiln between fixed supports and is supported by at least two eccentrics 9 carried on transverse shafts 10 which are driven through worm gearing 13, 14 by a longitudinal shaft 15. The latter is driven through multiplying gearing 16<SP>1</SP>, 16 from a Geneva cross mechanism 17, 18. The four stud wheel 18 rotating at constant angular velocity imparts to the Geneva cross 17 a rotary movement with four velocity minima per revolu tion. Gearing 16<SP>1</SP>, 16 and 13, 14 converts this movement to a rotation of shafts 10 having two velocity minima per revolution which can be arranged to coincide with the instants of lifting and depositing the materials from and on to the fixed supports.
