Abstract

942,338. Ground-surface drying machines. FORGE CRAFT Ltd. March 29, 1962 [March 29, 1961], No. 11501/61. Heading E1G. Apparatus for removing moisture from the ground comprises one or more perforated drums rotatable about a supporting structure, moisture passing through the perforations being trapped and carried to means for collecting it by means located adjacent the inside surface of the or each drum. As shown, a perforated drum 1 is rotatable about a hollow axle 4 which opens into a shallow tank within the drum and is connected at its outer ends to tubes 5 leading to a reservoir 15. Oblique angled fins 13 on the inner face of the drum direct liquid entering the perforations into the tank 9. If the fins are inclined at opposite angles the drum will remove moisture when rotated in either direction. The fins may be replaced by a thick pad of, e.g., foamed plastics material, applied to the inner face of the drum which is squeezed by a transverse rod or roller located above the tank. In another embodiment (not shown) two drums each housing a tank are mounted end to end on a bottom axle communicating with reservoirs fore and aft of the drums. The drum(s) may be driven by motor means. In a modification of this embodiment only one tank is provided which is drained by a pump.
