3 claims. (CI. 68-22) I This invention relates to a fibre pick-up drum and squeeze roll for fibre stock scouring and washing tanks.
An object of the invention is to provide an improved fibre pick-up drum and squeeze roll for fibre stock scouring and washing tanks which will be so constructed that the fibre stock in said tank after being thoroughly washed and scoured will be positively picked up by said drum, rinsed and squeezed to remove the excess washing fiuid therefrom, and finally brushed from the drum by means of a rapidly rotating dofier or ejector roll into a chute for rewashing or-removal to a suitable drying chamber.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved fibre stock pick-up drum and squeeze roll for a fibre stock scouring and washing tank which will include a receding pin mechanism for engaging and picking up the fibre stock in the tank while the pins are extended for removing the same, and said pins automatically receding to or below the level of the drum when the fibre stock is to be removed therefrom.
A further object of the invention is to provide an improved cooperating rotary pick-up drum and adjustable pressure squeeze roll for removing fibre stock from a scouring and washing tank, togetherwith an angularly disposed perforated guide plate below said drum for permitting the dirt and refuse extracted from the stock to pass to the lower portion of the tank.
Another object of the invention is to provide an improved fibre stock pick-up drum for fibre scouring and washing tanks which will be highly efiicient in operation, and relatively inexpensive to manufacture and produce.
Other objects will appear as the description proceeds.

Figure 1 is a side elevation of the improved fibre pick-up drum and squeeze roll mechanism;

Like characters of reference are used throughout the following specification and the accompanying drawings to designate corresponding parts.
In carrying out the invention, there is provided an improved fibre stock scouring and washing tank generally denoted by the reference numeral I, the same being formed-with an extension 2 at the discharge end thereof.
The tank I will be filled with water or with a suitable washing fluid 3 in which the fibre stock 4 will be thoroughly scoured andwashed.
Mounted upon the upper surface of the opposite sides 5 and 6 of the tank I, are the bearings 'l and 8, which support the transverse shaft 9 upon which the improved fibre pick-up drum generally denoted by the reference numeral i0 is mounted for rotation. The drum i0 is provided with the oppositely disposed end members it ends and adapted to be received within the bearing slots 12 in the said end members ii. The sticks or bars i3 will also support a plurality of outwardly extending pins I5, which will be adapted to engage and pick up the fibre stock 4 when the apparatus is in operation.
A pair of U-shape cylindrical camming guide races l6 are formed with the oppositely disposed apertured ears which will be adapted to receive screws or other suitable fastening means .for supporting the said guide races to the inner surfaces of the opposite sides 5 and 6 of the tank i with the open grooves of said races'extencling inwardly to receive the round bearing heads I8 at the outer extremities of said sticks or bars 13, the pins 15 in said bars being adapted to extend through the rows of apertures l9 in the cylinder 20 of the drum It, to transmit motion to said cylinder when the shaft 9 of the drum is rotated by means of any suitable driving motor (not shown).
By inspecting Figure 5 of the drawings, it will be seen that approximately one-half of the guide races 56 recedes to form the camming portions 2! which will be disposed upon the upper half of said races, whereby as the shaft 9 and the a a ends II with the sticks or bars l3 supported in the bearings l2 therein revolve, the sticks will follow the U-shaped races and just prior to each understood that as the drum in rotates'ina clockwise direction, the fibre stock 4 will be engaged by the pins l5 and will be picked up as it floats on the top of the washing fluid 3 and will be conveyed upwardly where it will be thoroughly sprayed with clean water discharged from the perforated water tube 23.
The oppositely disposed vertically extending standards 24 are positioned at each side of the tank I, and pivotally support the arms 25 upon the pivotal connections 26, said arms in turn, supporting the bearings 21 on their outer extremities in which the transversely extending shaft 28 is rotatably mounted and supports the squeeze roll 22 which is formed with a compressible peripheral cover 29. The depending arms 30 are supported by the arms 25, and are adapted to receive one or more weights 3|, as desired, to provide a variable tension between the squeez roll and the pick-up drum. I
The doffer or ejector roll 32 will be mounted transversely of the extension 2 of the tank in a position slightly above the pick-up drum l0 upon the shaft 33 which will be suitably driven in any desired manner. A cover member 36 will be provided for the doifer or ejector roll 32, and will be extendeddownwardly as at 35 to form a chute through which the fibre stock will be discharged when brushed from the drum ill by the said doflz'er or ejector roll. A doctor 36 will be supported in contact with the outer surface of the cylinder 20 to scrape any extraneous fiber stock therefrom as the cylinder and drum l0 revolve.
A downwardly and forwardly extending perforated guide plate 31 is supported by the end of the tank extension 2 in a position below the rotary drum l8 whereby the dirt and refuse from the fibre stock 4 which is squeezed therefrom and is passed between the drum l0 and the squeeze roll 22, will be directed to the bottom' of the tank where it may be removed or drained oil in any desired manner.
From the foregoing description, it will be apparent that there has been devised a highly efiicient form of fibre pick-up drum and squeeze roll mechanism which will be rotatably mounted the scope of the invention thereto, as many minor changes in detail of construction may be resorted to without departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. In combination with aflbre scouring and washing tank having a washing fluid therein, means for picking up the washed fibre from said tank including a rotatable shaft mounted transversely of said tank, circular end members secured to the opposite ends of said shaft formed with spaced bearing notches about their peripheral edges, a pair of channeled cylindrical camming guide races of U-shape in cross section secured to the opposite inner side walls of said tank, a plurality of transversely extending bars disposed in the spaced bearing notches in said circular end members formed with round bearing heads on their opposite ends receivable in the channels in said cylindrical camming guide races, outwardly extending rows of stock. pickup pins supported by said bars, a perforated cylindrical drum supported upon said circular end members with said pins extending through the perforations in said drum forming the driving means therefor, a rotatable ejector roll mounted transversely of and adjacent said drum, and said bars beingradially retractable by said camming guide races as they approach the position of the ejector roll to withdraw the pins flush with the surface of the drum as the stock is brushed from. the surface of the drum by said ejector. roll.
2. In combination with a fibre scouring and washing tank having a washing fluid therein, means for picking up the washed fibre from said tank including a rotatable shaft mounted transversely of said tank, circular end members secured to the opposite ends of said shaft formed with spacer bearing notches above their peripheral edges, a pair of channeled cylindrical camming guide races of U-shape in cross section secured to the opposite inner side walls of said tank, a plurality of transversely extending bars disposed in the spaced bearing notches in said circular end members formed with round hearing heads on their opposite ends receivable in the channels in said cylindrical camming guide races,

3. In combination with a fibre scouring and washing tank having a washing fluid therein, means for picking up the washed fibre from said tank including a rotatable shaft mounted trans-i versely of said tank, circular end members secured to the oppi "te ends of said shaft formed with spaced bearing notches about their peripheral edges, a pair of channeled cylindrical camming guide races of U-shape in cross section secured to the opposite inner side walls of said .tank, a plurality of transversely extending bars disposed in the spaced bearing notches in said circularend members formed with round bearing heads on their opposite ends receivable in the channels in said cylindrical camming guide races, outwardly extending rows of stock pickup pins supported by said bars, a perforated cylindrical drum supported upon said circular end members with said pins extending through the perforations in said drum forming the driving means therefor, a rotatable ejector roll mounted transversely of and adjacent said drum, said bars being radially retractable by said camming guide races as they approach the position of the ejector roll to withdraw the pins flush with the surface of the drum as the stock is brushed from the drum by said ejector roll, a hooded discharge chute disposed adjacent to and about said ejector roll, means for spraying a rinsing fluid upon the stock as it is picked up by the stock pickup pins extending through said perforated drum, and a variably tensioned squeeze roll engageable with said drum at a point opposite the beginning of the camming portion of the channeled cylindrical guide races.
