[Also in Division H1] Fig. 3 shows a transformer 8 with its auxiliary control winding 5 connected to a transductor 11 energized from a magnetic amplifier 10 which is excited from the line voltage and also, via a current transformer 9, from the primary current. To make the transductor control sensitive to the voltage drop due to the load current a further winding on the current transformer 9 having a phase displacing impedance LR connected across it feeds the transductor control at a voltage #e (Fig. 4) through a pair of back to back rectifier bridges 12. The reactive voltage drop can be compensated by adding a fixed capacitor. If the transformer supplies an arc furnace the auxiliary winding can be connected across the furnace electrodes directly or through another transformer. Alternatively, it can be fed from a fourth winding which is tightly interleaved with the secondary windings and may link also with the leads as far as the electrode terminals.
