Abstract

Pigment compositions are obtained by flocculating an aqueous dispersion of the pigment in the presence of a latex obtained by the emulsion copolymerization of a vinylalkylbenzene with a fumaric ester of a C3 or C4 saturated alcohol in the presence of such an amount of chain transfer agent as results in a polymer which in the dry state is solid at ordinary temperatures and is soluble in white spirit. In an example, vinyl toluene and di-n-butyl fumarate are copolymerized in water containing potassium persulphate, sodium bicarbonate and turkey red oil using amyl mercaptan as chain transfer agent.
