Abstract

Anti-haemophilic globulin (Factor VIII) is stabilised in aqueous solution by the addition thereto of one or more clinically acceptable, nonreactive, natural or synthetic water soluble polymeric substances. Specified are soluble proteins such as non antigenic gelatin, human serum proteins e.g. serum albumin, serum gamma globulin, synthetic nitrogenous polymers such as polyvinylpyrrolidone, nitrogenfree synthetic hydrophilic polymers such as polyethylene glycol or polyvinyl alcohol, natural and synthetic polysaccharides e.g. dextran. The stabilized solution may be dialysed, subjected to sterile filtration and freeze dried. The protective agent may be added to the eluting solution or to the eluate obtained in the process described in Specification 883,549 wherein a purified A.H.G. solution is obtained by treating crude A.H.G. solution with an ion exchanger at a pH of 6 to 8.
