Abstract

940,828. Typewriters &c. HALDA A.B. June 26, 1962 [June 26, 1961], No. 24576/62. Heading B6P. In a typewriter or like machine wherein resiliently-loaded feed-rollers engage a platen mounted on a travelling carriage, the feed rollers are moved away from the platen for paper release by an operating shaft which is in two or more parts, and the parts can be coupled together for simultaneous release of all the rollers or can be uncoupled so that certain only of the rollers need be released. As shown two sets of feed rollers viz. 31, 311, 31<SP>11</SP> and 30, 30<SP>1</SP> and 30<SP>11</SP> are employed. Two rollers 31 are mounted on a shaft 34 carried by levers 21 pivoted on the carriage frame 5, and the four rollers 311, 31<SP>11</SP> are carried on a shaft 35 also carried by levers 21, the levers 21 being loaded by springs 24. Similarly, the two rollers 30 are mounted on a shaft 32 carried by levers 20 and the four rollers 30<SP>1</SP>, 30<SP>11</SP> are mounted on a shaft 33 also carried by levers 20, the levers 20 being loaded by adjustable springs 25. The ends of the levers 20, 21 remote from the rollers bear normally against flats 43 on a two-part operating shaft 15, 16; the parts 15, 16 can be coupled together by a sleeve 14 having slots at its ends engaging studs 42, 42<SP>1</SP> on the two parts, so that actuation of the shaft 16 by a lever 19 causes all the rollers to be released. If the parts are decoupled by moving the sleeve axially, actuation of the shaft 16 will cause the rollers 30<SP>1</SP>, 30<SP>11</SP>, 31<SP>1</SP>, 31<SP>11</SP> only to be released. The sleeve 14 is operated by a lever 1 connected by a link 10 to a lever 11 notched to engage a lug on the sleeve, the lever 1 being held in either coupling or uncoupling position by an overcentre spring 7.
