Paper shelves.-The carriage 6 of a typewriter is provided with two paper-supporting arms 1 joined together by a bar 2 and pivotally mounted parallel to the platen 9. The arms may be held by a spring 8 in the operative (dotted) position or in an inoperative position where they conform to the contour of the carriage 6. The arms extend through an opening 7 in the carriage and may be manipulated by a control lever.
