Abstract
940,744. Hydraulic jacks. LIGHTBURN & CO. Ltd. Oct. 25, 1960 [Oct. 27, 1959], No. 36539/60. Heading B8J. In an hydraulic jack in which the jack cylinder 4, pump cylinder 21 and a valve block 20 are contained within a housing 2 welded to a base 1, a removable plug 43 is provided in the housing aligned with the valve block whereby the valves may be removed from the valve block and housing. On reciprocation of the pump piston 22 by means of a handle passing through an opening 52 and engaging in a socket 53, fluid passes from the reservoir, formed by the housing 2, through ball valves 24, 25 and passages 33, 34, 17 to the jack cylinder. A relief ball valve 26 is normally held against its seat 35 by springs 38, 39 acting on a release lever 40 carrying a screw-threaded adjusting member 41. To lower the jack, the lever 40 is pivoted about its lower end in an anti-clockwise direction by rotation of the pump piston which carries a cam 50, Fig. 3 (not shown), the cam thereby moving the upper end of the lever 40 to the left. By removing the plug 43 and the member 41, the valves 24, 25, 26 may be removed from the housing. The pump piston and lever 40 may be removed from the housing through a gland mounting 60 after removal of the glands.
