Abstract

940,684. Springs. SOC. LUXEMBOURGEOISE DE BREVETS ET DE PARTICIPATIONS. Feb. 9, 1961 [Feb. 9, 1960], No. 4895/61. Heading F2S. A compression spring, e.g. for interposition between two relatively movable structural parts 5, 9 of a vehicle suspension system and which has an initial high flexibility followed by a progressively increasing hardness as it is deformed with increasing load, comprises a rubber or elastomer body of paraboidal shape having an easily deformable cap-shaped portion 1 of constant or variable thickness and a bellowstype body portion 2 having a metal ring 3 for securement to the structure 5. A resilient cushioning device 8 may be secured to the structure 5 to extend within the spring. As shown in Fig. 2 the cushioning device is omitted and reinforcing rings 7 are provided in grooves 6 on the external side of the bellows portion 2. The initial flexing of the portion 1 may be effected by a projection 10, Fig. 5, to increase the proportion of spring displacement having a high flexibility. A gas-tight pneumatic spring Fig. 7, has a compression chamber provided by the insertion of a member 11 with a check valve 12. The spring is advantageously combined with a conventional leaf spring of a vehicle suspension system.
