Abstract
Moist vinyl chloride is dried by passing it in vapour form through a first adsorber containing silica gel and/or alumina gel until the first adsorber is saturated with water and then passing the vapour analogously through a second adsorber, the gel in the first adsorber being dehydrated simultaneously by passage of the moist vinyl chloride previously heated to about 200 DEG C., and then being re-used after cooling for drying further vinyl chloride. The vinyl chloride may contain inert gases, e.g. nitrogen and acetylene. The vinyl chloride used for the regeneration may be recycled to the regeneration step after removal of water therefrom and reheating. The vinyl chloride may be that obtained from the reaction between acetylene and hydrogen chloride.
