Abstract

Shampoo and shaving compositions comprise a suitable carrier in which is incorporated pelargonic acid or a salt thereof, and a perfume capable of being fixed in the carrier by the pelargonic compound. Specified pelargonate salts are sodium, potassium, lithium, ammonium and triethanolamine pelargonate. Suitable perfumes are the essential oils: Rosedamai Absolute, Geranium Bourbon and Oil of Cordamon; synthetic aromatics: Geraniol pure, Hydroxy citronellol; compound perfume oils: lilac type, floral type or rose character. In examples (a) a lather type shaving cream comprises stearic acid, coconut oil, potassium hydroxide, sodium hydroxide, glycerol, stearin, sodium pelargonate, Oil of Cordamon and water (b) a brushless type shaving cream comprises stearic acid, mineral oil, lanolin, gums and thickeners, sodium pelargonate, Oil of Cordamon and water (c) a brushless type shaving cream comprises stearic acid, cetyl alcohol, petrolatum, methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, lanolin, Span "20" (Registered Trade Mark), (i.e. sorbitan monolaurate), Tween "20" (Registered Trade Mark), (i.e. polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate), sodium pelargonate, hydroxy citronellol and water (d) a liquid shampoo comprises sodium pelargonate, coconut oil, olive oil, castor oil, potassium hydroxide, glycerol, ethyl alcohol, sodium hexametaphosphate, Oil of Cordamon and water.ALSO:A perfumed therapeutic composition for topical application, having bacteriostatic and fungistatic properties, comprises a suitable carrier in which is incorporated pelargonic acid or a salt thereof, and a perfume capable of being fixed in the carrier by said pelargonic compound. Specified pelargonate salts are sodium, potassium, lithium, ammonium and triethanolamine pelargonate. Suitable perfumes are the essential oils: Rosedamai Absolute, Geranium Bourbon and Oil of Cordamon; synthetic aromatics: Geraniol pure, Hydroxycitronellol; compound perfume oils: lilac type, floral type or rose character. The compositions may be in various forms, e.g. shaving creams, shampoos antiseptic ointments, antiseptic cleansing and lubricating creams, antiseptic solutions, and hair tonics.
