[Also in Divisions C4 and C5] A composition for application to the skin including the scalp to diminish or inhibit sebum flow consists of a dermatologic base and a fatty amine, R-NH 2 where R is a C 12-20 , saturated straight chain hydrocarbon radical the amine amounting to 0.5-15% by wt. of the base. Mixtures of two or more of the amines may also be used in the composition. The dermatologic base may be an ointment, cream, gel, paste, powder, lotion, or shampoo. Surface active agents, preferably of the cationic or non-ionic type, may be present in the lotion or shampoo bases. Specified cationic surface active agents are benzalkonium chloride and lauryl dimethylamine oxide. Specified non- ionic surface active agents are polyethoxylated cetyl alcohol, sorbitan monolaurate, polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate, polyoxyethylene stearate, lauric diethanolamide, isooctylphenylpolyethoxy-ethanol, nonylphenylpolyethyleneglycol ether containing 15 mols of ethylene oxide, or a condensate of ethylene oxide with a hydrophilic base formed by condensing propylene oxide with propylene glycol, together with conventional additives such as foam boosters, conditioning agents and perfumes. The composition may comprise an aqueous alcoholic solution of the fatty amine together with a skin germicide, which may be an anti-bacterial or antibiotic e.g. neomycin, polymyxin or bacitracin, hexachlorophene, or nitrofurazone. The skin germicides may also be incorporated into other dermatologic bases. Additives conventionally employed in skin treating compositions e.g. local anaesthetics such as menthol or benzyl alcohol, camphor, essential oils, oil of cloves, oil of eucalyptus, allantoin, anti-oxidants, preservatives, buffers, perfumes, drying, bodying, and peeling agents may be added to the fatty amine compositions. Solutions of the fatty amine in a suitable solvent e.g. aqueous ethanol or ethanol may be mixed with a conventional aerosol propellant, or mixtures thereof. Typical formulations comprise (1) a lotion consisting of ethanol, menthol, camphor, hexachlorophene, benzalkonium chloride, ethoxylated cetyl alcohol, stearylamine, water, and perfume; (2) a lotion comprising colloidal sulphur, triethanolamine propylene glycol, polyoxyethylenated cetyl alcohol, palmitylamine, water, and perfume, (3) a medicated cake comprising TiO 2 , kaolin, isopropyl stearate, laurylamine, lecithin, lanolin, ceresin, cetyl alcohol, resorcinol, and colloidal sulphur; (4) a dusting powder comprising zinc oxide, myristylamine, sulfurated potash and talc; (5) a facial pack comprising bentonite, TiO 2 , glycerol, sulphur, hexachlorophene, stearylamine, water and perfume; (6) a composition comprising polyoxyethylene stearate, coal tar extrac, colloidal sulphur, arachidylamine, ethanol, glycerine, water, and perfume.
