Abstract
939,418. Corrugating tubing. FLEXONICS CORPORATION. Feb. 9, 1960 [Feb. 12, 1959], No. 4576/60. Class 83 (4). Apparatus for helically corrugating metal tubing comprises a plurality of spaced annular die-rings. Tubing 42, supported and held against rotation at its leading, and, if necessary, its trailing end by a truck 44, passes through two forming stations 10, 12. The forming station 10 includes a pair of annular die-rings 20, 22 freely rotatable in a carrier 26 itself rotated in a base 16 by a pulley 32 driven by a motor 14. The die rings 20, 22 are radially loaded or offset to engage the tubing from diametrically opposite sides and are inclined to the diametral plane of the tubing. The tubing is thus fed axially and corrugated at 50 by the die rings 20, 22 and finished corrugations 52 are formed by similar die rings 20a, 22a. Only one or more than two forming stations may be provided. Guide bushings 62, 66, Fig. 4, for the tubing are journalled in the carrier 26. The die 20 is journalled at 76 in a bracket 72 adjustable by a screw 122, about a pivot assembly 70. The die 22 is journalled at 86 in a bracket 82 adjustable about a pivot assembly 80 by a screw 106 and adjustable to or from the die ring 20 by screws 90. The carrier 26 may alternatively be stationary and the tubing rotated by means on the truck 44.
