[Also in Division F2] A device for helically wrapping pipes or like elongated members of circular section comprises an annular member 14 having a removable or hinged segment, said member mounting one or more tape reel supports 6, and carrying a plurality of pairs of progression wheels or rollers 1 circumferentially spaced around the annulus by not more than 180 degrees, the wheels of each pair both being spaced apart along, and having their axes of rotation inclined to, the axis of the annular member. Each pair of wheels is housed in a member 2 carried by each of three equally spaced radial rods 3, said rods being rotatably and radially adjustable in clamps 4 whereby the rate of advance of the annular plate on rotation may be varied and whereby pipes of different diameters may be accommodated. The extent of radial adjustment is indicated by circumferential grooves around the rods. The wheels of each pair, which may be of rubber or steel, are staggered unequal distances a, b from their rod axes, the respective distances for other wheel pairs being varied such that on rotation of the plate 14 the wheels cross a given pipe circumference in succession. Alternatively, the distances a, b may be constant and the clamps axially staggered. The two segments of the plate 14, hinged at 9, are clamped by hook 10a of an over centre-toggle-link 10 on one segment engaging projections of a spring-loaded rod 13 sliding in a boss 12 on the other segment, thereby causing the pairs of progression wheels to be pressed against a pipe 7. Each wheel pair may be individually spring-loaded against the pipe and each housing may be rockable on its rod.
