Abstract

798,141. Cable reels. RUSHWORTH, D. March 22, 1957 [Jan. 7, 1956], No. 620/56. Class 99(2). A rim on to which cable is wound is supported in rotatable manner on a roller G provided on a frame H. By turning the roller, or rotating the rim by means of a handle L attached thereto, cable is rewound on to the rim. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the rim comprises spaced-apart rings A, A<SP>1</SP> having curved outer parts C and secured together by blots B passing through parallel flanges D of the rings, the edges of these flanges being received in annular grooves formed in the roller G. A handle may be attached to the roller instead of the rim, the latter being rotated by frictional engagement thereof with the roller, and the frame H may have a foot which rests on the ground. In modifications, (a) the rim, Fig. 4, is formed in one piece and is V-shaped in cross-section, the roller having an annular groove of corresponding cross-section, and (b) two or more rims are disposed side-by-side on the roller, so that two or more cables can be paid out or taken up simultaneously.
