Abstract

1,099,169. Tensioning and guide roll. MICAFIL Ltd. July 8, 1966 [July 13, 1965], No. 30792/66. Heading DID. A guide roll for use in unreeling wire, consists of two parts each having a plane face with an annular recess containing a ring of flexible material; the parts are so shaped that when they are brought together with the plane faces in engagement to form the roll, the rings form the base of a peripheral groove to receive the wire. It is thus ensured that the roll is driven by the wire even when the wire contacts the roll over as little as 35‹ of the circumference of the groove. The two parts of the roll are secured together and to a flange on a shaft 5 by screws 4. The other end of the shaft carries a brake drum 7 with a band 6.
