Abstract
1,068,965. Spinning; flanging. DECIBEL PRODUCTS Inc. Sept. 8, 1964 [Sept. 20, 1963], No. 36771/64. Headings B3E and B3J. A method of forming a radiation reflector (132, Fig. 11), comprises supporting a metal blank by its outer edges only, rotating the blank and passing a forming tool (66, Fig. 1), against the blank along a curved path extending radially inwards of the blank. A ring- support (54) for rotating the blank is carried by spokes (50) on a hub (46) driven, through a gear-box (40), by an electromotor (36). An arcuate, elliptical, parabolic or hyperbolic track (58) for a carriage (60) carrying the forming roller (66) is pivoted at one end to a block (90) and at the other is connected to a screw (96) by which the track may be lowered between passes of the roller (66). The carriage (60) is traversed along the track by a screw (70). In a preliminary operation (Fig. 7), a central support (128) is positioned and the blank is secured on the ring (54) by a clamp (136, 138) bearing on a wooden disc (134). A flange (150) is then formed by a tool (not shown) as the ring is rotated by the motor (36). The clamp (136, 138), support (128) and disc (134) are then removed, and the blank retained on the ring (54) by a ring (154, Fig. 8) during formation of the reflecting surfaces. A plane or perforated blank of aluminium may be used, starting in the half-hard condition.
