Abstract

Polyolefin materials are rendered more suitable for dyeing by direct and vat dyestuffs by treatment with an aqueous solution of a silane containing primary and/or secondary amino groups. The preferred silanes correspond to the general formula RnSi(OR1)4-n where n is 1, 2 or 3 (especially 1), R is a hydrocarbon group containing a primary or secondary amino group and R1 is a hydrocarbon group. g -aminopropyl triethoxy silane is specified. The solution may be applied at a temperature of 10 DEG -85 DEG C., preferably 70 DEG -80 DEG C. Subsequently the material may be squeezed and then dried at 90 DEG -100 DEG C. Dyeing may be effected by conventional means. Examples are given in which polypropylene fabrics, yarns and fibres are treated and dyed. Specification 882,067 is referred to.
