Abstract
938,682. Extruding. LOEWY ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. April 17, 1961 [Jan. 15, 1960], No. 1519/60. Class 83 (4). An extrusion press has twin billet containers 30 arranged for alternate movement into and out of alignment with the extrusion axis XX, the containers being pivotally supported on the press frame 10, each container being swung through a circular arc which intersects the axis, at CS, Fig. 2, and passes through this axis to an outside station, either OS1 or OS2, spaced from this axis. The billets are fed from induction heating chambers 50 via roller conveyer 48 to shoots 46, thence to the fixed billet trap 44 opposite the bore 32 of its respective container 30. The containers are housed in carriers 34 and are pivotally connected by forked links 36 either to tie-rods 18 or mounted on shafts which may be stationary or, if the links are secured to them, of the rocker type. Movement of the links 36 may be effected by hydraulic or mechanical, motor-driven means. The billet containers 30 are moved axially in their carriers 34 by two hydraulic rams 60 and a cross-head 58 to bring them successively into contact with the die 24, or to retract them for discard-shearing.
