Abstract
938,658. Dynamo-electric machines having planar air gaps and printed windings. NORMACEM. April 27, 1960 [May 2, 1959; Feb. 8, 1960], No. 14756/60. Class 35. In a dynamo -electric machine having a planar air gap extending normal to the rotary axis of the machine, and coils whose printed, engraved or electrolytically-deposited conductors one or laminar shape of very small thickness parallel to the axis and relative to their width. Foucault's currents are reduced by providing one or more narrow slots 18 over at least part of the lenth of at least one conductor the slots dividing the part into two or more elements connected electrically in parallel. The slot 18 extends in the radial conductors 15 and either through part of the heads 16 or as shown in Fig. 4 throughout the heads 16 and connections 20 to those on the other face of the discoidal armature 2. The Fig. 4 armature is applicable to a machine such as shown in Fig. 1 of Specification 938,657, and the slotted armature coil 21 shown in Fig. 6 is applicable to the alternator shown in Fig. 5 of that Specification. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 874,394.
