Abstract

938,542. Separating dust from gases. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Nov. 1, 1960 [Nov. 13, 1959], No. 38659/59. Class 8(2). Apparatus for separating solid particles from a gas stream comprises a settling chamber 2 having a dust-laden gas inlet duct 1 extending upwardly through its base and having a flared upper end resulting in the velocity of the gas stream being reduced to such a value that a fluidised bed of particles 13 is formed which overflows into the chamber 2 and passes therefrom through a valved duct 11; the so-cleaned gas being vented through a duct 7 at the top of the chamber 2.
