Abstract
937,903. Shedding mechanism for looms. W. E. N. LAURITSEN. Oct. 3, 1960 [Oct. 6, 1959], No. 33882/60. Class 142 (2). The individual healds 1 have magnets or soft iron armatures 3 at each end which are attracted by magnets 5, 6 common to all the healds. In one embodiment, permanent magnets 5, 6 are used which are moved apart (from the positions shown in broken line) to effect shedding. The magnet 6 and an associated comber board 10 start to move first, any healds that are not required to descend being pushed off the magnet 6 by plungers 7 operated by fluid pressure under the control of pattern mechanism; these healds remain in contact with the magnet 5 and associated comber board 11 and rise with them. In another embodiment, fixed electromagnets are employed; in this case, the magnet 6 is stronger than the magnet 5 so that any healds that are not disengaged from it by plungers 7 are drawn down when the comber boards 10, 11 approach each other, the other healds being drawn up by the magnet 5.
